FPC membrane switch panels can be manufactured using polyester or polyimide (Kapton) as the base material, depending on your specific interface requirements. An ultra-thin copper sheet is laminated to the flexible film substrate, then chemically etched to form precise copper traces. The etching process involves chemical agents and is therefore less environmentally friendly; it is also more costly compared to screen-printed silver traces used in Silver Flex membrane switches.
FPC membrane switches are ideal for compact designs requiring dense circuit patterns or constrained trace routing. This design delivers the complex circuit capabilities of an FR4 rigid printed circuit board while retaining the flexibility of a membrane switch. Copper Flex keypads also support hard soldering of active and passive components, making them an excellent choice for high-vibration, high-reliability environments.
